History of the Line

The Black Satin line was not established until 2008, but previous Siamese Line breedings are included here to show descent.

May 22, 2004 - BSR Prince Sameth x SRR Whimsy
Purpose: To establish my Siamese line, using an excellent California buck out of show lines. This was my second foundation breeding. Both animals were superb in temperament, conformation and health - both lived to be almost 3 years of age. This breeding also produced my first Black Satin rat, and the descendants of this breeding later went on to found our Black Satin line.

Purpose: Crossing my two foundation lines and bringing a deep, rich black to my Seal points, and adding Satin.

July 30, 2007 - BVR Chokaro x FSTR Xaxi Ardia
Purpose: More interweaving of the bloodline - Xaxi is the daughter of Seiobo and Ekewaka, making this litter a nice, tight inbreed.

July 13, 2007 - BVR Princess Chicken x BVR Fortune Cookie
Purpose: More interweaving of the bloodline with a sibling inbreed, making this litter a nice, tight inbreed. At this point I can confidently say it is a true bloodline.

March 1, 2008 - FSTR Morganstern x BVR Hatshepsut
Purpose: The first "official" Black Satin line litter. We originally chose Morgenstern's brother, Iago, to breed to Hatsheptsut, but she did not like him at all and the breeding never successfully took place. She adored Morgenstern, however, and gave us a wonderful litter. Morganstern was the son of Ekewaka x Seiobo's daughter Katahdin, making this a good inbreed even as it established the new line.

June 30, 2009 - FSTR Bread Crusts x BVR Mary of Gueldres
Purpose: The original purpose of this line was to put Satin into my Russian Cinnamon line. Bread Crusts was a son of Mimsey, a gorgeous Black Satin male with very strong conformation and lovely lines. This breeding produced all Satin babies, including one phenominal, dark Satin Agouti that we kept.

June 18, 2009 - BVR Dudelsack x FSTR Popsicle Sticks

Purpose: Again, this litter was originally intended simply to bring Satin into my Russian Cinnamon line. Both Dudel and Poppy were big, robust rats with amazing temperaments. Poppy was a lovely Black Satin girl with excellent conformation, also a daughter of Mimsey.

April 16, 2010 - BVR Chunky Monkey x BVR Ein Berliner
Purpose: EB and Monkey were both big, solid, heavy-boned rat and by crossing them, I hoped to bring more robust size and build to my bloodlines.

December 28, 2010 - BVR Fearn's Pippin x BVR So... Yeah
Purpose: To cross Satin into my Russian Cinnamon line. Luckily, what I also got out of it was a very nice, dark Agouti boy that can be used now to rebuild my Black line.
