Purpose: We worked very hard for this litter! Our Black Satin line has won many awards and boasts 4 Champions or Grand Champions in its short lineage, however, we hit a snag with a litter that simply wouldn't reproduce. Getting Mad Hatter to finally sucessfully mate wtih a related girl was a challenge!
Chickadee is from a related line that includes descent from Mad Hatter's aunt and a brother of our foundation rats. Hopefully she can add in some reproductive vigor to the line while continuing the great standards of conformation we've achieved so far!
This is a line that has consistently produced great-looking, show-winning rats, and every one of those winners has also been a wonderful, floppy, cuddly pet.
Outcome: Sadly, this was the end of this branch of the bloodline. A color mutation showed up in Chickadee's uncle and passed on to two of her siblings, which carries hidded under black but adulterates other colors, making this bloodline useless as an outcross possiblity, which was the purpose of the line. Additionally, Chickadee passed away at 19 months from a massive heart problem. This litter will not be bred from.
Sadly, BVR Red Queen died of what appeared to be a heart defect shortly after going to her adoptive home at 7 weeks old!
